About Foster Care Alumni Support at TXST

Being a college student is hard, and everyone needs support. The Dean of Students CARE Center is here to make sure you have that support. If you are a student with experience in the foster care system, whether you were adopted or aged out, and you are now attending Texas State or thinking about attending Texas State, we are here for you. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Dean of Students CARE Center! 

Our mission is to create a campus-wide network of support to assist students who have a lived experience in the foster care system achieve educational success by focusing on recruitment, retention, and graduation.

Resources and Services

  • Texas Foster Youth Justice Project: Provides free legal help for current and former foster youth. They help foster youth understand their legal rights, provide legal advice, assistance, guidance and representation in enforcing foster youth rights. They also educate the general public about the legal needs and concerns of foster youth.

    Texas Youth Connection: Provides information about education, finances, how to obtain records from CPS and find biological family members, health, employment, food, housing, contact information, and success stories.

  • The Basic Needs Hub shares a variety of on-campus and community resources to meet the needs of all students.

  • The Dean of Students CARE Center emergency funding is intended to assist students meet their basic needs that cannot be covered due to an urgent, unexpected emergency situation. Assistance for basic needs is restricted to food, housing, transportation, and utilities. Funding is limited up to $500.

    Campus Visits

    At this time, we are only capable of offering campus visits/presentations to groups during Bobcat Days. If you are interested in visiting campus or bringing a group of potential students to campus, please sign up to visit during Bobcat Days and send an email to faces@txstate.edu to let us know you'll be coming!

    Housing Exemptions and Cancellations
