Absence Notifications
Faculty are responsible for the course absence policy and for determining if an absence is excused.
- Students should contact their instructors first to communicate absences.
- After contacting the instructor, the student may utilize the Absence Notification Form to share documentation with the instructor. The form may be used to report emergency absences such as illness, hospitalization, inclement weather, or death in the family.
- Students must speak to their instructor about questions relating to the course’s absence policy.
The Absence Notification Form does not guarantee that the absence will be excused.
If a student is unable to contact the instructor due to an emergency or crisis, contact the Dean of Students Office at 512-245-2124.
The Absence Notification Form should not be used for the following situations:
- Chronic illness or on-going medical conditions - Students with absences related to chronic or on-going medical conditions should contact Disability Services to learn more about their options and to register to receive accommodations.
- University-sponsored events - Students seeking excused absence related to university-sponsored events should review the University Policy and Procedure Statement 02.03.06 for more information.
- Military Active Duty - Students called to military active duty should follow procedures outlined in the Global Policy and Procedure Statement 02.08 Section 09.
